The Brymen Technology Corporation very likely produces the best quality multimeters out of Asia. A proud Taiwan company specializing in electrical measuring instruments, it is well respected among electricians and amateurs who might buy from them as an alternative to Fluke.
These are standout meters and new owners are rarely disappointed in their purchase as they tend to deliver great functionality and build quality at a lower price. Along with good functionality and user-friendly interfaces, what makes Brymen multimeters stand out from the other mid-range brands is their high level of input protection.
Some examples of their testers:
BM257
This solid, compact tester is widely known among professionals and DIYers. It is loaded with features, such as non-contact voltage detection and AutoV, plus it can data record. A True RMS responder, it can measure AC drive systems accurately and has excellent input protection. You’ll see this as the Greenlee DM-510A in the USA. Read full review…
EEVBlog BM235
The re-released and re-badged Brymen BM235 has been endorsed by YouTuber electronics guru Dave Jones. Another True RMS device, it has slightly less functionality than the BM257, but is good for electricians and HVAC technicians, with voltage and current to 1000V/10A plus micro-amps and temperature ranges. Company Background
Founded in Taiwanese in 1993, Brymen has always had an eye on producing quality devices. They are well known for producing a 1000V, CAT-IV-rated multimeter first. They have now had 20+ years to hone their products and manufacture an array of multimeters, along with clamp meters, voltage testers and data loggers.
OEM: They have collaborated with a number of companies to rebrand their meters to overseas markets. Greenlee is one such brand; a US firm that sells the re-badged Brymen BM257. The EEVBlog has its brand on the BM235.
Today: Together with its base in Taipei, Brymen operates out of several other places in Asia, including Japan, China, South Korea and Malaysia. It also has distributors in the US, Europe and Australia, where its meters are typically rebranded. The company meets ISO 9001 on quality assurance and invests significantly in research and development and quality of materials.
Products
Brymen produces dozens of devices, from DMMs and voltage testers to clamp meters and data loggers. Its equipment is used in the home, commercial properties, in industry and in schools and laboratories.
Multimeters
Their DMMs go from full range digital multimeters to automotive devices and pocket meters. There are several series’, from the pocket-sized BM20 to the legendary BM250 True RMS series, the full size 860’s and the versatile 900 series.
Popular models:
- BM520: Mobile logger
- BM810: Professional with PC comms
- BM820: CAT-IV dual display
- BM860: High-count AC+DC
- BM900: Variable frequency drives
Other Test Equipment
Brymen also makes several clamp meters and voltage testers. There are standard clamps with True RMS that measure to 600A DC+AC, 1000A clamps with phase rotation, CAT-IV 2000A clamps, variable frequency drive clamps, data loggers, amp clamps that have voltage detection and models with slim jaws. Their 1000V insulation multimeter also comes with a 200mA continuity tester.
